Transfers Insert Set

1965 Topps Transfers

For the sake of completeness, and since I already created a page featuring the more readily available Embossed insert set from 1965 Topps, I wanted to also feature a gallery of the less readily available Topps Transfers.  These came in strips of three and when cut by the collector are roughly 2" x 3".  It's not a particularly attractive set, but the players, for the most part, are more recognizable here than they are in the Topps Embossed set.  According to a few posts from the invaluable The Topps Archives blog, the Embossed cards were inserts within the first few series of 1965 Topps cards, with the Transfers taking over as inserts in the mid-series releases.  Of note is that while the set is known as 1965 Topps Transfers today, they were originally advertised as the more descriptive Hot Iron Transfers.

Presented below alphabetically are the 72 unnumbered 1965 Topps Transfers.  There are two versions of the Ron Hunt transfer available - one listing his position as "2nd base," and a second listing his position as shortstop.  And for the record, all scans below are from eBay auctions or other internet sources.  This is a pricey set to attain, either collecting each transfer individually or buying the set all at once, and I'm going to spend my collecting dollars elsewhere.
