As the regular shortstop for the Yankees in 1962, Tom Tresh was an All-Star, won the American League Rookie of the Year award and earned a World Series ring.  The biggest hit of his career was most likely the three-run home run he hit off the Giants' Jack Sanford (#228) in Game 5 of that World Series, leading the Yankees to a 5-3 victory in the game and an overall 3-2 series lead.  He moved to center field in 1963, taking over for an injured Mickey Mantle (#350), and enjoyed another All-Star season.  His versatility was key for the Yankees in the mid to late 1960s as he was the club's regular left fielder, center fielder or shortstop between 1962 and 1968.  Tresh won a Gold Glove in 1965 for his work in center field.  The Yankees traded him to the Tigers on June 14, 1969 for Ron Woods and he'd appear in 94 games with his new team before retiring.  For his career, Tresh batted .245 with 153 home runs and 530 RBIs.

Building the Set
February 13, 2021 from Edmonds, WA - Card #228
Busy with my chosen profession, rarely leaving the house and anxiously awaiting the return of live baseball, I turned to eBay in early February for some cardboard therapy.  After another largely unsuccessful bidding exercise on a 1965 Topps set break hosted by Greg Morris Cards, I went the Buy It Now route with 10 cards from Mitchell's Cards located in Edmonds, Washington.  As we've been completely unable to find packs of 2021 Topps locally, the much-needed package of baseball cards was a welcome sight in our mailbox on February 13th.  I spent $34 on the 10 cards from Mitchell's, with this Tresh card costing $8.50.

The Card / Yankees Team Set
Given his popularity in New York and the success of his first few years in the majors, Tresh gets a hero number with a card ending in zero.  Topps highlights his team-leading 13 stolen bases in 1964 which topped the 11 bases stolen by Bobby Richardson (#115).  His four World Series home runs came with one in 1962, one in 1963 and two in 1964.  In 18 World Series games, Tresh hit .277 (18 for 65) with 13 RBIs, to go along with his four home runs.

1965 Season
Tresh appeared in 156 games, batting .279 with 26 home runs and 74 RBIs - tops in all three categories for the Yankees for the team's Triple Crown.  On the way to a Gold Glove season, Tresh started 103 games in center field and 34 in left, spelling Mantle whenever the superstar needed a day off.  Tresh hit his career highs in both doubles with 29 and triples with 6.  On June 6th, Tresh homered three times in a game against the White Sox, hitting the first one from the right side of the plate and the next two while batting left-handed.
