Building the Set
August 21, 2020 from Charleston, SC - Card #154
In my largest (by volume) purchase to date, I spent an enjoyable hour or so in mid-August browsing the eBay store of seller mantlerulz and clicking Add to Cart on 30 different cards.  We had previously added 29 cards to our set back in February from the Philly Show.  The 30 cards, all commons, cost me $52 total (before shipping and taxes) with the cards ranging in prices from $1 to $6.  I love this haul and I found the seller's store by accident when I was browsing eBay in an attempt to add a few more cheap cards from the set's first series.  With this purchase, we've now passed the quarter mark for completion of the set.  We still have a long way to go, and quite a few pricey cards to add, but any day I can add 30 commons in excellent shape and at very low prices is a great day.

This de la Hoz card was $1.  He's the third player born in La Habana to be added to our set, joining Cookie Rojas (#474) and Zoilo Versalles (#157).

The Card / Braves Team Set
On April 1, 1964, de la Hoz was sent to the Braves from the Indians as the player to be named later in the October 1963 deal that sent Chico Salmon (#105) to the Indians.  This is de la Hoz's first Braves card.  The back of the cartoon touts de la Hoz's glove work in his first year of professional baseball with the 1958 Minot Mallards of the Northern League.

1965 Season
de la Hoz appeared in 81 games for the Braves, the most games he played in any one Major League season.  He started 13 games at third base as the back-up for regular Eddie Mathews (#500), and hit .256 overall with a pair of home runs and 11 RBIs.  Perhaps the best game of his career came on July 8th.  With the Braves trailing the Astros 6-4, de la Hoz hit a pinch-hit home run in the 8th off pitcher Dave Giusti (#524).  He remained in the game and tied the score at 8-8 with a single in the 9th to score Rico Carty (#305).  Finally, he scored the winning run in the 12th after singling to start the inning as the Braves won, 9-8.
